Electric Land Rover Series III Safari Vehicle

A Classic Safari Vehicle, Reimagined for the Future
The Electric Land Rover Series III represents one of Silent Savannah’s first fully operational electric safari vehicles, built to deliver quiet, zero-emission game drives without compromising the rugged reliability of a Land Rover.
This vehicle retains the charm and open-air design that made the Series III a safari icon, while introducing a modern, fully electric drivetrain. By combining vintage authenticity with cutting-edge engineering, it showcases how traditional safari vehicles can evolve into clean, sustainable transport solutions for Africa’s wilderness.
Converted in collaboration with Foleys East Africa, this build uses a Nissan Leaf electric motor paired with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, delivering smooth, instant torque and a dependable range for daily lodge operations.
The conversion preserves the vehicle’s four-wheel-drive system, enabling guests to explore the bush with the same capability as a diesel model - only in complete silence.
The absence of engine noise enhances wildlife encounters, while reduced maintenance and zero tailpipe emissions make it a practical, cost-effective solution for lodges pursuing sustainability.

Advancing Silent Safaris Across East Africa
The Electric Series III Safari Vehicle embodies Silent Savannah’s vision of an electric safari experience powered by solar electric vehicle charging.
It demonstrates how legacy vehicles can be repurposed for modern use, reducing carbon emissions while maintaining their timeless safari appeal.
This project helped pave the way for Silent Savannah’s growing fleet of electric Land Cruisers and Defenders, as well as the development of our portable solar charging containers that enable truly off-grid electric mobility across Kenya’s conservancies and national parks.
